Welcome to the Balanced Besties! Our names are Megan and Lillian, we met through blogging in 2013. At the time we were both single and blogging about running and our love of food. We are now both happily married, homeowners, dog parents, and Lillian is also a human parent. After a few years away from blogging we decided it was time for a comeback!
Hello! My name is Megan and I love weight lifting, cooking, and my hot husband. I was an avid runner (not nearly as fast as Lillian) for years; however after a few unsuccessful knee surgeries my fitness regime took a turn to weight lifting. I love seeing my strength increase and learning about what kind of fueling helps me to reach my fitness goals. At home I prepare mostly paleo dishes and that seems to work pretty great for me. I don’t think life would be worth living without swine (in all preparations), turkey, brussels sprouts, apples, coconut oil, and butter.
I am a cyber security analyst by day and a wannabe HGTV star by night. In 2014 my husband and I bought a 934 sq ft ranch in the suburbs of Washington DC. In 2016 we contracted a 2,000 sq ft addition and in 2017 we gutted and rebuilt the original structure to match the new aesthetics of the addition. My husband has taught me everything from reinforcing a sagging foundation, to building walls, installing tile, plumbing, electrical, and how to install hardwood. Our house has been a huge labor of love and I look forward to sharing some tips and tricks I have learned along the way.
I used to think the definition of success was being able to afford a drawer full of VS undergarments and non-horse shampoo (growing up, we used this shampoo that also was recommended for horses and was uber-cheap).
Now, I have gained wisdom in my adult years and realize success is feeling balanced mentally usually through some sort of physical movement, a spoonful of peanut butter, and being surrounded by my sweet, little family.
I am a law librarian and freakin’ LOVE it. Like, I get giddy by inhaling the smell of stale books and researching obscure historical legislative analysis’ of some law about medical equipment or private roads where illegal trolls dwell. Outside of work, I love all things cardio (swim, bike, run). I hate marathons but ran Boston so I guess I can’t hate it entirely. I married Mr. Speedy (my husband is built like a football player but runs 2:50 marathons) and we live on a small lake with a few acres. I used to STRONGLY DISLIKE all pets, including dogs, but we now have a golden retriever. I still don’t like petting him much but he is a pretty good foot warmer. In September 2017, I birthed a cute little girl while squatting on an inflatable tube thing. That was probably the most awesome experience ever. EVER. But inflatable pool toys now make me feel the need to reproduce.
